To be launched in time for the September 2011 school holiday period the Giant Slide will no doubt become a family favourite and is aptly named at 46 metres long, 15 metres high and nine metres wide. Dreamworld Reveals its new Bone Chilling Thrill Ride

Dreamworld celebrates its 30th birthday in 2011, and there has never been a better time to visit as Australia’s favourite theme park goes all out with a host of additions including a bone chilling new thrill ride, BuzzSaw.

The biggest year ever for the iconic entertainment destination, Dreamworld has added a new exotic animal exhibit, ‘The Lair’, a new adventure ride, ‘ShockWave’ and now a major thrill ride so extreme it will boost the park’s Big 6 Thrill Rides to the Big 7.

Opening in time for the September school holiday period, BuzzSaw is an Australian first and will be the ride to conquer for high-action adrenaline seekers.

Seated in an open carriage, riders will be held in by a single waist harness leaving the upper body fully exposed to the elements, and with little to cling onto. This white-knuckle ride starts with a suspenseful 46m vertical ascent that will have riders instantly wishing they were back on the ground.

At its peak, the rider’s centre of gravity is flipped and they are dangled upside-down 15 storeys in the air before the ride car free-falls through a 360 degree heart roll, and plummets down a final vertical drop at speeds of up to 105km/hour. BuzzSaw will be the highest inversion ride experience in the Southern Hemisphere.

Situated in the park’s Gold Rush precinct, the construction of the new ride has unearthed some unusual stories about the make-believe mining township, which has been part of Dreamworld since the mid 1980’s.

Unexplainable occurrences recounted by staff working in the area and historic research dating back to the late 1800’s have inspired the ride’s theme and will have guests wondering where fact ends and fiction begins.

With construction now well underway, BuzzSaw will be one of the first menacing thrill rides guests can spot as they arrive in the main car park adding to the already impressive landscape including the Tower of Terror II and The Giant Drop.

Dreamworld’s line-up of new rides and attractions in 2011 makes now the best time ever to visit our worlds of fun.

Stay tuned for more details on this year’s biggest, fastest thrill ride, BuzzSaw.

Aussie World purchases yet another attraction!

The dust has hardly settled on new thrill ride Giant Redback that was launched last month, and now there's another two rides being built at Aussie World.

This week the fun park alongside the iconic Ettamogah Pub on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland purchased the Giant Slide where it was a much loved attraction at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The aptly named Giant Slide is 150 feet long, 50 feet high and 30 feet wide.

The third ride is yet to be formally announced but will open in time for the September school holidays and will be the first of its kind on the Sunshine Coast.

These rides take Aussie World's investment into the ever popular facility past the $2 million dollar mark reinforcing Aussie World as a major player in the Sunshine Coast tourism industry.

General Manager David Thompson said the purchase of these new attractions will entice more visitors to come to the Sunshine Coast and to stay for longer.

"Due to our management principles and unique diversity of the complex, such as being the largest off site function venue on the Coast, we are successfully forging ahead and are able to make this significant investment," he said.

"We will also remain an affordable and fun day out by not increasing our gate entrance prices."

The three new rides will enhance the current six function areas and 30 rides and attractions on site, which include the Town Hall, The Shed, Giant Redback, Wild Mouse Rollercoaster, Ferris Wheel, Rock n Roll Rebel Dark Ride, Dodgem Cars and Side Show Alley.

Dreamworld and WhiteWater World Offer Huge Easter Holiday Lion-Up

White Lions, laser lights and lounging luxury are on offer at Dreamworld and WhiteWater World this Easter holiday period when the theme parks launch two brand new offerings and bring back a night time favourite with unlimited entry until 30 June for $69 per person.

This Easter, Dreamworld will open the doors to a brand new exotic animal exhibit known as The Lair. For the first time ever on the Gold Coast, Dreamworld guests will be able to get up close to two rare White Lions as they roam around the new enclosure for this school holiday period only.

The White Lion is native to the Timbavati region of South Africa, and these native influences have been incorporated into the design of The Lair to create authentic surroundings for these amazing creatures.

Guests will enter a traditional Timbavati village and learn about the plight of one of the world’s most rare big cats and discover the Zulu significance of spotting a White Lion. As guests venture deeper into the village they reach a rocky outcrop and come face to face with The White Lion.

Aussie World invests in new amusement rides

The Sunshine Coast's Aussie World fun park is investing over two million dollars by opening two new rides, the first one opening just in time for the important Easter holidays.

The first new ride is called the Giant Redback, a ride manufactured in Italy by thrill ride and rollercoaster design and manufacturing company Zamperla. The other ride (due to open later this year) will be first of its kind on the Sunshine Coast.

These two new rides will enhance current attractions, which include the Wild Mouse Rollercoaster, Ferris Wheel, Rock n Roll Rebel Dark Ride and over 30 rides and games already onsite.

Targeting those with an adventurous spirit, the Giant Redback promises to be the Sunshine Coast's most thrilling ride. It seats 24 people, is an impressive 16 metres in height and has clockwise and anticlockwise circular rotations on a platform with outward facing seats.

"We are thrilled to provide these new attractions," says David Thomson, General Manager. "Our hope is this will give even more reason for people, domestic, international and the corporate business market, to visit the naturally refreshing Sunshine Coast."

The Aussie World complex is located on the Bruce Highway, Sunshine Coast and includes the famous and iconic Ettamogah Pub and ever popular retail shopping strip.

Management and unique diversity of the complex has allowed it to successfully forge through the recent tough economic situation to be able to make this significant investment.

Dreamworld's newest big cat residents will be the first mane show for new exhibit

Dreamworld today confirmed rumors that the themepark is undergoing major construction work to create a brand new interactive enclosure that is capable of displaying various exotic animals and is due to open in time for April school holidays.

The first animals to be featured on display will be two rare white lions to be temporarily relocated to the Gold Coast themepark from their permanent home at Canberra’s National Zoo and Aquarium.

With just a handful in captivity around the world, this will be the first chance for many South East Queensland locals and visitors to view this breed of big cat in such authentic surroundings and at so close a range.

Spotted for the first time in the 1930’s in the Timbavati region of South Africa it wasn’t until the 1970’s that the White Lion was rediscovered with the first breeds occurring in the 1980’s at Johannesburg Zoo.

The three year old brother and sister duo named Jake and Mischka will inhabit the new 334m² enclosure where visitors will be able to observe their natural behavior and Dreamworld’s General Manager Life Sciences, Al Mucci, explains that this playful pair will provide plenty of enjoyment for observers.

“These white lions are still in an adolescent stage and as such are really playful and active. They’re both big cats with Jake weighing in at over 200kgs, so guests will really be able to see the sheer power as they play with each other and adapt to their temporary surroundings.”

The new exhibit is to be purpose built to suit a range of animals and future plans for the themepark will offer locals and visitors the chance to observe different species at various times of the year.

“White lions will be the first exotic animal we introduce to the new enclosure and we are looking into other exotic carnivores that have never before been displayed on the Gold Coast,” said Mr Mucci.

The new enclosure will be located near the entrance to Tiger Island and will feature many interactive elements where guests will be able to walk alongside the displayed animal while remaining safely behind the facilities purpose engineered, triple laminated toughened glass.

The new exhibit will be ready in time for April school holidays and Dreamworld is keeping a few secrets up its sleeve, with the promise to really amaze visitors.

“There are a few elements we are still working on and we will have further news in the coming weeks. We know our guests will be really excited about this new facility,” said Mr Mucci.
